Red alert sounded in area along Teesta River

Saurav Dev, Jalpaiguri: Red alert has been sounded in the unreserved areas of Teesta River due to the rise of level of water in the river by the irrigation department. The alert has been sounded  from the Damhani to Mekhligunj area bordering Bangladesh. Many areas of Malbazar subdivision has gone under water due to the release of water from Teesta barrage.

Many families have been stuck in the water. Relief materials have been supplied to them. The heavy rain has also caused damage to the Teesta barrage. The weather department has forecasted heavy rainfall in the next 24 hours in the area.
