Mumbai: Diwali release of Bollywood superstar Salman Khan’s ‘Prem Ratan Dhan Payo’ which is directed by Sooraj Barjatya has made a remarkable opening on first day at box office with an occupancy rate of 70 to 80 per cent.
Distributor Girish Wankhede said ,”The opening has been very strong. It should be somewhere around Rs 35-40 crore (today) as per early estimates. The weekend collection should be around Rs 110-120 crore. The occupancy is 70-80 per cent even in multiplexes, which is a very good indicator. It is festive season, with Salman and Barjatya’s combo which is working.”
Earlier this year, Salman’s “Bajrangi Bhaijaan” took an opening of nearly 27.25 crore and “Prem Ratan Dhan Payo” is expected to make more than that at the box office. Last year, Shah Rukh Khan-Deepika Padukone starrer “Happy New Year”, which released on Diwali, raked in an impressive 44.97 crore.
Due to the combination of Salman – Rajshri films after 16 years later , the trade analyst Taran Adarsh commented to PTI that , “The opening is phenomenal across the country. The advance bookings and the buzz so far has been terrific,”
“It is appealing to the family audience as it is a clean film. Not only the afternoon shows, but even the morning shows were flocked by parents who were watching the film with their children. That is a big positive sign,” Kamal Gianchandani, CEO of PVR Picture Ltd said.
