India records 'sixy' against Zimbabwe

Auckland: Although this is an inconsequential game in context of the tournament, it would be remembered for Taylor’s fairytale farewell from international cricket. It marks India’s new record of chasing down the highest total at the World Cup. Riding on Raina’s 110 and Dhoni’s 85, India recovered from the early shake given by Dav Whatmore’s side. Inspite of losing 4 early wickets, India came back strongly in the match and registered her sixth straight win in he World Cup. By the virtue of this victory, India advances to the quarter finals as the league toppers. Suresh Raina was adjudged man of the match for his brilliant performance with the bat. This is Dhoni’s ten match winning trot at the world cup also.

Earlier, Brendan Taylor’s brilliant 138 helped Zimbabwe score 287 against India in their ICC Cricket World Cup game at Eden Park in Auckland.

Rohit Sharma was dismissed for mere 16 by Tendai Chatara after being caught by Sikandar Raza. Shikhar Dhawan was dismissed for mere four by fast-bowler, Tendai Chatara.

Zimbabwe started their innings on a poor note as they lost early wickets. Umesh Yadav gave India first breakthrough by removing Hamilton Masakadza for 2 runs. Solomon Mire was dismissed for mere nine off fast-bowler, Mohit Sharma after being caught behind by MS Dhoni.

But after that Sean Williams and Brendan Taylor added 93 runs for the 4th wicket. Taylor scored his 8th century in ODIs, against defending champions. His century came off 99 deliveries including 11 boundaries and two sixes along with a strike-rate of 102. Brendon Taylor made 138 runs before being removed by Mohit Sharma.

India is likely to play Bangladesh at the quarter finals of the World Cup.
