Wolfsburg: Zinedine Zidane’s hopes of clinching this year’s Champions League title suffered a blow as Wolfsburg swept aside Real Madrid 2-0 to take a commanding edge in the quarter-final clash.
The first leg of the quarter-final saw Wolfsburg score two goals in the first half to take the match in their favour at Volkswagen Arena.
Wolfsburg defender Ricardo Rodriguez opened his side’s account by scoring a penalty in the 18th minute before midfielder Maximilian Arnold doubled the lead just seven minutes later.
However, Real created a number of chances to pull one back , with Karim Benzema, Gareth Bale and Cristiano Ronaldo all attempting to score a goal, but they were all restricted by the opponents’ goalkeeper Diego Benaglio.
The two sides will now play their second leg of the quarterfinal at the Santiago Bernabeu on April 13.
