Kolkata: As violence marred the October 3 civic polls in West bengal’s three municipal corporations namely Bidhannagar, Bali and Asansol, The Election Commission on Thursday announced re-poll in 9 booths of Bidhnanagar Municipal Corporation and 2 booths in Asansol municipal Corporation.
Election will be held on Friday, October 09 in 9 booths of Ward Nu- 9 (booth nu-9/92), 33 (booth nu-33/339), 34 (booth nu-4/353, 34/356, 34/362) and 41 (booth nu-41/425, 41/426, 41/427) in Bidhannagar.
In Asansol, repoll will be held on the same day at booth number-14/126 and 75/667.
The decision was announced by new Election Commissioner Alapan Banerjee. Vote counting will be held on Saturday, October 10. The EC said that the decision was made after massive rigging and violence allegedly orchestrated by the ruling Trinamool government has been reported.
The opposition parties had termed the October 3 votes a farce and alleged that Trinamool unleashed a reign of terror to intimidate the voters. Former election Commissioner Sushanta Ranjan Upadhyay resigned following the fiasco.
In an unprecedented way the Bidhannagar polls had witnessed massive violence, not even journalists were spared. At least 21 journalists suffered severe injuries after being assaulted by alleged Trinamool goons.
