Lucknow: Uttar Pradesh Police Director General Jagmohan Yadav triggered a controversy today with his statement on rapes and rising crime against women while addressing a press conference in UP. Jagmohan Yadav said rapes were a common phenomenon happening in all the states. “Police is unable to completely stop crimes against women,” Yadav added.
Yadav sparked a row by saying that “rapes were committed even during the Ram Rajya”.
BJP’s Vijay Bahadur Pathak condemned Yadav’s statements as unwarranted and irresponsible.
In the past too, Yadav has stirred controversies but the state government has paid no heed to it owing to the police officer’s alleged proximity to the family of Samajwadi Party supremo Mulayam Singh Yadav.
