Bangaon: A rape accused has been sentenced to jail for 10 years and also ordered to pay a compensation of five thousand rupees on Friday. Chinmay Chatterjee, the judge of the Bangaon Sub-Divisonal Court sentence Faruk Mandal (38) to 10 years of rigorous imprisonment.
The incident took place on 4th November 2013. Faruk Mandal had gone to an invitation on the occasion of Kali Puja sexually assaulted the girl who is stated to be physically handicapped. The victim’s father, resident of Gopalnagar Police station’s Tarani pur village had lodged a complaint at the police.
The local police arrested him within a few days of the incident. As per Samir Das, the victim’s lawyer, the investigation took much time as the victim was deaf and dumb. After 4 years of prosecution, on Friday the rape accused has been sentenced to jail. Though, Faruk was free on bail during the investigation period. But on Thursday he had to be present at the court for the final verdict.
The victim’s family was happy with the decision as they said they got justice. Anil Roy, the local police officer said that he believes that people now would trust their work.
