Haridwar: Trouble seems to be brewing for Yoga Guru Ramdev, after the row over ‘Putrajevak Beej’ the son guaranteeing medicine by Ramdev, his brother was arrested on Wednesday. After a trucker was allegedly killed in clashes between employees of a food park run by the yoga guru and members of a transport union in Uttarakhand’s Haridwar, police said.

Several other persons were also injured, one of them shot in the foot, in the pitch battle between the two groups, which also pelted each other with stones, police added.Haridwar senior superintendent of police Sweety Agarwal said the yoga guru’s brother Ram Bharat was arrested in the afternoon following the death of Daljeet Singh, 45, leader of a local truckers’ union.

Bharat heads the Patanjali Food and Herbal Park Ltd, a unit of Ramdev’s business empire Patanjali Ayurved, estimated to be worth Rs. 1,200 crore. Known to be close to the ruling BJP in the Centre, Ramdev had set up the park during the UPA rule. Its produce includes food products, cosmetics and processed fruit juice.

Besides Bharat, police also arrested the park’s security officer Bahadur Singh Negi and marketing head BP Pathak. Though it was unclear how Singh died, sources said he suffered gunshot wounds. Police said a search at the park premises later yielded five revolvers.

The truckers were angry with the park management for floating its own transport company for supplying products across the country, allegedly dishonouring a 2014 agreement to avail their services.

Police sources said truckers had gathered outside the park gate from Tuesday evening, announcing that they would not allow the park’s trucks to enter the premises. The stand-off turned into stone-pelting on Wednesday, though both sides claimed the other started the violence. Police confirmed that shots were also fired by both sides.

The truckers alleged that Ram Bharat and a group of around 50 farm staff pelted stones on them besides opening fire. Later Ramdev and his aide Acharya Balkrishna also reached the site before police arrived to disperse the crowd. The yoga guru, however, did not respond to queries from journalists.

Ramdev’s brother was embroiled in controversy earlier too when he was charged by Haridwar police in 2013 for allegedly man-handling and illegally detaining a former employee Nitin Tyagi.
