Haridwar: Yoga guru and Ayurved drugmaker Ramdev on Friday defended the controversial Putrajeewak Beej medicine marketed by his company by saying it has nothing to do with the birth of a son or a daughter.
“The botanical name of this medicine is ‘Putranjiva roxburghi‘. It’s called ‘Putrajeevak’ in Hindi, Gujarati, Kannada, Marathi, Telugu, Bengali and other languages. What do I do when it’s very name is Putrajeevak?” Ramdev told reporters.
Ramdev faces barb over “son¬guaranteeing” medicine “being sold by Baba Ramdev’s pharmacy”, the upper house of the parliament staged a huge protest on Friday. The Government on Friday agreed to look into the issue and see how the product was issued a license.
The matter was raised by Janata Dal (United) member K. C. Tyagi who wanted to know how a person selling such a product could be made brand ambassador of Haryana where the ‘Beti Bachao¬Beti Padhao’ scheme was launched.
