Rajya Sabha condemns Katju’s attack on Gandhiji, Netaji

New Delhi: The members of the Rajya Sabha on Tuesday cut across all the political divides and came together in protest of former Supreme court judge Markandey Katju for terming Mahatma Gandhi as a British Agent and Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose as a Japanese one.

Some members even demanded action against the former Judge.

The zero hour saw members from the opposition and treasury benches coming together to condemn the statements of Justice Katju in his blog and the entire house adopting a resolution through voice vote.

Leader of the house Arun jaitley said that he shared the anguish of the members and ‘outrightly condemned’ it. He said, “”It is unquestionable that Gandhi probably has been the greatest citizen of India in the recent era,”

When the House met for the day, Naresh Agarwal (SP) raised the issue and was soon joined by members from across the political spectrum in condemning the reported statement.

Agarwal later demanded withdrawal of all government facilities given to Katju as a former Supreme Court judge.

TMC MP Sukhendu Sekhar Roy said that the resolution should condemn Katju’s statement that Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose was an agent of Japan.
