Srinagar: Hours after Separatist leader Masarat Alam’s rally in Srinagar, where Pakistani flags were waved by his supporters, Home Minister Rajnath Singh called up jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed and asked him to take immediate and stringent action.
Speaking to Mr. Sayeed on Wednesday night, Home Minister Rajnath Singh said, “There can be no compromise on national security. Politics cannot impinge on national security.”
An FIR has been filed over the incident but no arrests have been made so far. Whereas a member of People’s Democratic Party (PDP) has said that democratic space cannot be denied to the separatists.
Wahid Rehman Parra, PDP’s youth President said, “Separatism and Pakistan constituency in Kashmir is a reality and we have to deal with it. We can’t deny democratic space to these people. It is an ideological battle now. We have to make them mainstream by giving them democratic space.”
Alam has been accused in inciting violence throughout Srinagar in 2010 resulting in police firing where more than 100 people were killed.
