Kolkata: The one-and-five-year old’s father is no more. His mother is now in police custody. But what about him?
The future of Rajat-Anindita’s son seems uncertain. Neither he understands what is happening around, nor he can contemplate. The innocent eyes just looks for his parents. The small child is now in his maternal uncle’s house at New Town’s BD block.

The New Town police arrested Anindita Dey on Sunday after she broke down during interrogation and confessed of murdering her husband Rajat Dey, who was a lawyer of the Calcutta High Court.
Anindita confessed that she used a mobile charger to strangulate Rajat. They had a fight on the night of murder and Anindita decided to sleep in a separate room. Another fight ensued between them and Rajat threatened to commit suicide and used a cloth around his neck to threat. Then Anindita entered the room and tied the mobile charger’s wire around Rajat’s neck on top of the cloth and killed him.
The police are trying to find out with whom was Anindita talking prior to the murder. They are also trying to retrieve the deleted messages from Anindita’s phone.
New Town police found some irregularities in the statements of Anindita Pal Dey, the widow of Rajat Kumar Dey (34), a Calcutta High Court lawyer whose body was found inside their flat in New Town on November 25. Police on Friday interrogated her for a long duration in this connection. The police had started a case of unnatural death and later initiated a murder case on the basis of the complaint lodged by the deceased’s father, Samir, who alleged that the victim’s wife might have been involved in some foul play.
It was learnt from police sources that the victim’s wife initially told police that Rajat had died due to a cardiac arrest but the autopsy report confirmed that he died due to strangulation. During the interrogation, Anindita reportedly contradicted her earlier statements. The sleuths are investigating into all possible angles which might have led to his death. They suspect the victim might have been strangulated with a fine thread as a result of which the mark around his neck was not prominent.
A special team has been constituted with two women officers to probe into the incident. Cops are verifying CCTV footages of a restaurant where the couple had their dinner on the day of incident. A police picket has been set up near the flat of the victim. The sleuths are going through the call lists of the victim’s wife. They have sought the help of state forensic officials in the regard.
Police are trying to know why the couple’s son and a pet were taken to Anindita’s parental house before the incident took place. A name of a city based doctor is cropping up. As there were irregularities in the statement of the deceased’s wife, cops are not ruling out the possibility of her being responsible for her husband. They have started a detailed probe in this regard. Police also came to know that the victim had a quarrel with his wife for her over indulgence in telephonic conversations. Rajat was found dead inside a room in his flat at DB 97 in New Town on Saturday night. The incident took a new turn on Monday after Samir lodged a murder complaint against Rajat’s wife Anindita and three other members of her family.
