Kolkata: The city and West Bengal witnessed norwesters on Saturday evening. A thunder squall, accompanied by lighting and moderate rain, lashed Kolkata and adjoining districts. According to the weather office, the squall blew at a speed of 64 km an hour.
While a trough running from Northwest India is extending up to West Bengal across Jharkhand. Also, north-south higher-level trough also persists over East India. Hence, fairly wide spread rain and thundershower activities with isolated squalls and lightning is expected over Jharkhand and West Bengal.
In the coming 24-48 hours, these pre-Monsoon activities would now be seen over North and South Bengal like Siliguri, Darjeeling, Contai, Digha and Canning. To begin with rainfall will be light, picking up pace after 24 hours.
