Kolkata: Light showers on Thursday morning is the precursor to heavier spells on Thursday evening and Friday, warned the Met office.
A well-marked low pressure area that has been brewing over west-central Bay of Bengal is set to develop into a depression over the next 24 hours and reach the Odisha coast. It will trigger sporadic rain on Diwali with the possibility of a heavy spell late on Thursday evening. Heavier showers could follow on Friday, predicted the Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC), Alipore.
Even though the low-pressure system didn’t move much on Wednesday, its impact on Kolkata weather will be significant, said GK Das, director, RMC.
The system was moving in a north-west direction towards the Odisha-Andhra coast. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD) website, it could reach the coast on Thursday evening.
