Kolkata: Continuous and heavy downpour in Kolkata and most of the districts of West Bengal from Sunday night has turned the city water swampy and muddy.
The local met office of Kolkata said in its weather forecast that heavy to heavy rain on Sunday. But the intense rain started to pour after 10 pm. Many important roads and other areas have been waterlogged after long and steady rainfall. Howrah, North & South 24 Pargana and Hooghly also experienced huge amount of rain.
Met office on Saturday said, depression over Bay of Bengal has been condensed and moved towards Balasor of Odisha and North-west side of Digha. The pace was 7 km per hour when moving towards Odisha and Digha.
Gangetic Bengal behold heavy rain throughout the day. But the record of rain will start shrinking from Monday. At the same time the rain fall will increase in Himalaya. But the tail of rain will continue in North Bengal on Monday too.
According to Met office data, districts of south Bengal like Purulia, Bankura, West Midnapore recorded heavy rainfall. Approximately 70 to 190 mm. East Bardhaman, West Bardhaman, Jhargram recorded heavy to heavy rainfall around 70 to 110 mm.
