Rain Brings Relief From Sweltering Heat In South Bengal & Kolkata


Kolkata: After witnessing soaring heat for past five days, rain brought major relief to South Bengal and Kolkata on Monday evening.

A squall passed over Kolkata at 9:30 pm on Monday with a speed of 57 kmph and lasted for one minutes. Several districts of South Bengal like Nadia, West Midnapore, Purulia, Bankura, Hooghly, Birbhum experienced moderate to heavy rain on Monday night.

Following the disconnection of over-head wire in Bolpur (Shantiniketan) station, train service hampered in that route. A major part of Vedic Village set in fire due to lightning during the thundershower.

The first Nor’wester of this month brought a relief to the South Bengal and Kolkata people after a scorching heat for last six days.

After FANI left Bengal, it was only witnessing scorching heat in Kolkata and South Bengal as there no moisture left in the air. The humidity level was high which gave a discomfort to all the people of South Bengal.

During the phase six election in Bankura, Purulia, Two Midnapore witnessed heatwave in last three days. The MET office issued heatwave alert for eight districts of South Bengal after the departure of FANI from Bengal.
