New Delhi: In fulfillment of yet another railway budget announcement, Indian railways for the first time procured a 50-MW power from market through open bidding.
The Electricity through open tender will cost only Rs. 3.69 per unit which is much less than the average cost of Rs 6.7 per unit procured through the state utilities.
The move is expected to lead to annual saving of about Rs.150 crore in electricity bill.
In another development, the railways is set to launch a scheme called Alternate Train Accommodation Scheme – VIKALP from November 1, to provide confirmed accommodation to wait-listed passengers and also to ensure optimal utilisation of available accommodation.
