Kolkata: The Eastern Railways have made huge profits during the Durga Puja days this year for four days from Chaturthi to Saptami.
According to the Railways, 6 lakh 12 thousand 136 passengers were present at the Sealdah station from October 13 to October 16 which indicates a 12.1 percent increase from last year. Last year, the number of passengers were 5 lakh 46 thousand and 260, who were present at the Sealdah station during those four days.
Not only an increase in the number of passengers were recorded, but an increase in the number of tickets sold from Sealdah station counter also increased by 27.9 percent, as compared to last year. Last year, Rs. 93 lakh 68 thousand and 30 was gained by selling of tickets. This year, it increased to Rs. 1 crore 19 lakh 82 thousand 400.
The percentage of the number of passengers at Sealdah station also increased by 9.4 percent. Last year, from Chaturthi to Saptami, the number of passengers were 66 lakh 45 thousand and 800. This year, it increased to 72 lakh 72 thousand and 796 passengers.
This year Rs. 6 crore 89 lakh 92 thousand 997 were gained by selling tickets from the Sealdah division. Last year, it was Rs. 38 lakh 11 thousand and 226. Hence, an increase by 8.1 percent.
The Railways have presented this list and also informed that maximum of the passengers were on their way to visit pandals. The figures will increase when the number of passengers during Ashtami and Dashami will also be counted.
