Rail Blockade In Howrah Hits Rail Services


Howrah: A large number of people today blocked Chengail railway station, about 30 km from here, demanding justice to the victim of the Kathua rape case.

The blockade began at about 7.30 am and has been continuing disrupting train services, railway sources said. South eastern railway officials have been persuading the agitators to lift the blockade.

Meanwhile, a road blockade on the same demand on the National highway-6 near Nimdihi was also put up at about 6 am.

After police intervention the blockade was lifted, the police said.Train services along the south eastern route were affected on Friday morning due to a strike in Chengail, Howrah.

While Falaknama Express, Lalmati Express, Mumbai Duronto Express, Purulia Express, and five passenger trains are stopped, 16 local trains are forced to stop.

Rail passengers continued to be a harassed lot due to the late running of several long-route trains. Chengail public agitation has started from 7.30 am on Friday morning for non – railway cause. All UP and Down trains detaining in various stations between Howrah – Kharagpur.
