Gujarat: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday attacked Congress Vice-President Rahul Gandhi over his visit to Somnath temple.

A massive political war has erupted between the Congress leader and PM Modi, who are currently in poll-bound Gujarat for campaigning activities. Over the past few days, the duo has launched a series of attacks and counter-attacks against each other.

Explaining that Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel built the Somnath Temple, PM Modi lashed out at the Congress, adding that Jawaharlal Nehru had opposed the construction of the temple.
“If there was no Sardar Patel, the temple in Somnath would never have been possible,” he said.

Targetting the Congress VP, the prime minister said, “Today some people are remembering Somanth, I have to ask them- have you forgotten your history? Your family members, our first PM was not happy with the idea of a temple being built there.”

“When Dr. Rajendra Prasad was to come to inaugurate the Somnath Temple, Pandit Nehru expressed his displeasure. Sardar Patel dreamt about the Narmada but your family did not let that dream fulfill,” he added. This is not the first time that BJP has earlier attacked Gandhi for visiting Dwarkadhish temple, Swaminarayan temple, and Ambaji temple earlier.

The prime minister lashed out at the Congress in the morning while speaking at Morbi.
He said: “In good and bad times, the Jan Sangh and the BJP have stood with the people of Morbi. One cannot say the same about the Congress and their leaders.” The PM also took potshots at Sonia Gandhi.

In addition, PM Modi also questioned the Congress on OBC commission and OROP.

He asked: “Congress is seeking votes of OBC communities but they should answer why they did not allow OBC Commission to get Constitutional Status for all these years?”

“We brought in the move, it was passed by Lok Sabha but stalled in the Rajya Sabha, where Congress has a majority,” Modi stated.

Reiterating Modi’s statement, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath also slammed the Congress.

“Whatever Gujarat has today is all due to BJP. Result of development brought in by Modi Ji, when he was CM, can be seen today. Bhuj was destroyed in earthquake and is flourishing. Narmada’s water is now available everywhere in state. Congress and Rahul must see this,” he said.
