Putin visits Egypt to improve bilateral ties


Cairo: Russian President Vladimir Putin on Monday arrived at Cairo to meet Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah-al-Sissi with both sides eager to strengthen ties with each other.

President Sissi greeted Putin who was accompanied by several high level Russian officials and government ministers flanked by military soldiers.

The Egyptian President’s office had earlier said that the two leaders would sign several agreements on Tuesday although no elaborations were made on the nature of the agreements. Both sides have mentioned the strengthening of Military co-operation and trade.

Russian flags and posters of Putin’s face hung across the capital. According to political analysts, the visit, the first by Putin to Egypt in a decade, is very symbolic.
