Ahmedabad: Union Minister for Textiles Smriti Irani accused the Trinamool Congress (TMC) of indulging in targeted killings of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) workers in West Bengal.
Addressing the media here, Irani said, “The ruling party in West Bengal is a part of a ‘consolidated opposition’ which is fighting against Prime Minister Narendra Modi. As a result, they’re indulging in targeted killings of BJP workers. The (TMC) government there has failed to maintain law and order and isn’t able to deliver justice to families of victims.”
Smriti Irani added that the murder of the BJP workers in Purulia was a result of TMC not being able to digest the good development work undertaken by the Centre in the state.
She further said that the incident was an example of how democracy was being strangled in the state.
The body of 32-year-old Dulal Kumar was found hanging from a high-tension tower in Dabha village on Saturday morning. The BJP has claimed that the victim was a prominent party worker, the BJP accused the ruling Trinamool Congress for the murder and sought a CBI probe into it.
A 20-year-old BJP worker named Trilochan Mahato was also found hanging from a tree in Balarampur area of the same district last week with a message inscribed on the back of his T-shirt, accusing him of supporting the BJP.
A high level CID probe has been ordered by Chief Minister Mamata banerjee to investigate the alleged murders of both persons.
The BJP has called a 12 hour bandh in Purulia on Sunday. Just after two of their party workers were allegedly murdered within a span of three days, BJP has called for this bandh. Most shops remained shut. Private transports were not seen on the roads while state-owned transports were spotted running on the roads.
The BJP also demanded imposition of President’s rule in the state, as party chief Amit Shah alleged that the Mamata Banerjee government had completely failed to maintain law and order.
Purulia S.P. Joy Biswas on Saturday was transferred by the Mamata Banerjee government to the post of Commanding Officer of State Armed Police 9th Battalion and Akash Magharia is now new Purulia SP.
Police on Sunday said that the death of BJP worker Dulal Kumar was a case of suicide. Newly appointed Purulia SP Akash Magharia told reporters that police has received the post mortem report. The PM conducted by a five-member team of medical experts clearly cites the cause of death.
