Punjab to get first school to prepare young girls for armed forces

Chandigarh: The Punjab Government led by Chief Minister Prakash Singh Badal is all set to open the country’s first ever school to prepare young women for the armed forces.

The Mai Bhago Armed Forces Preparatory Institute in Mohali (MBAFPI) will be inaugurated by Defense Minister Manohar Parrikar on July 25.

One of its kind in India, the institute will be having a three-year undergraduate programme where, besides pursuing academics, students will be equipped with skills required to become officers in the Army, Navy and Air Force.

For the inaugural batch 25 girls have been shortlisted from nearly 1700 applications. At least six among the selected students are from the defense families.
