Punjab BJP submits memorandum to Fin Min

Amritsar: The Punjab unit of BJP submitted a memorandum to Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley drawing his attention to the problems of the local people. The memorandum was presented by BJP Vice President Rajinder Mohan Singh Chhina demanding compensation for farmers whose cultivable lands are on the area of security fence with Pakistan.

He said that the compensation was given by the Vajpayee government but was discontinued by the previous UPA government.

The memorandum said, “The fence should be relocated at border so that the hundreds of acres of agriculture land in Gurdaspur, Pathankot, Amritsar, Tarn Taran and Ferozepur districts, is saved for farming.”

The memorandum also demanded special package for Amritsar. Singh said that special attention must be accorded to the city’s infrastructure as more than one lakh pilgrims and tourists on an average visit it daily.
