Kolkata: Adding another feather to its crown Kolkata Metro on Tuesday went Wi-Fi with the inauguration of 4G wi-fi services at Park Street and Maidan metro stations. These services will be extended to all stations soon, Metro Railway general manager A K Kapoor said.
On the other hand in order to counter the puja rush metro has decided run a record 738 services during Pujas this year. Services will start from 1.40 pm on October 20, 21 and 22 and continue till 4 am on October 21, 22 and 23. On October 23, services will start at 1.40 pm and continue till 11 pm.
“We shall run 200 services each on Saptami, Ashtami and Navami. On Dashami, we shall run 138 services. We are anticipating a lot of rush during the Pujas and have also made special security arrangements. Apart from Railway Protection Force and Kolkata Police personnel, our officers will be at stations to monitor the situation. We have also launched an App through which passengers can get all details about train running and special services. An additional lift is being installed at Dumdum and centralized AC plants have come up at Kalighat and Rabindra Sarovar,” Kapoor said.
The Metro had run 636 services during the Pujas in 2014 when 19.70 passengers had used the Metro. This year, leaflets will also be distributed among passengers, listing all major Puja pandals along the route. A real-time train arrival display system with a countdown timer has also been introduced at five stations in the first phase.
