Kolkata: Governor of Reserve Bank Of India Urjit Patel did get a whiff of tense political atmosphere in Kolkata when he landed in the city on Wednesday evening. Both the opposition and the leading parties have been staging protests since the last two days. The leaders marched towards RBI sounding sharp calls against Modi’s demonetization decision. Patel was compelled to enter the RBI bhavan through the back door on his maiden visit to the city.
Patel chaired the scheduled board meet in RBI on Thursday. Demonetisation and various another financial policies were discussed in the meeting with the senior officials. During the meeting, loud mayhem in the premises had almost played the spoilsport.
On Thursday morning, TMC staged a dharna infront of the RBI Office in BBD Bag. Overlooking the political rift, CPM cadres were also spotted with red flags joining the protest. The march, with placards, commenced from the Bengal Chamber of Commerce and later headed towards RBI.
CPM have submitted a memorandum to RBI’s Deputy Governor highlighting the plights of the common man due to the cash crunch.
