Srinagar: One protester was killed in Narbal in Kashmir, after police opened fire on the protesters to contain the escalating situation and disperse the mob on Saturday.
Hardline Hurriyat leader Syed Ali Shah Geelani had called for a bandh in Kashmir valley on Saturday to protest the arrest of separatist leader Masarat Alam has led to heightened security across the region.
Geelani made the bandh call soon after a Jammu and Kashmir court sent Kashmiri separatist Alam to seven days in police remand. Alam was arrested on Friday amidst mounting outrage over raising of pro-Pakistan slogans and flags at a rally attended by him on Wednesday.
The 45-year-old hardliner was arrested from his home in Habbakadal area of the city on Friday morning. Masarat, who was himself seen chanting slogans in support of Pakistan, besides Hurriyat Conference chairman Syed Ali Shah Geelani, had been placed under house arrest in Srinagar on Thursday night.
