Kolkata: The West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Thursday On International Day for Tolerance called for protecting India’s diversity and preserving communal harmony and brotherhood.
“On International Day for Tolerance, let us pledge to protect the diversity of our country.Communal harmony & brotherhood must be preserved” she tweeted.
Earlier on the day Banerjee greeted the media fraternity on the occasion of National Press Day. “On #NationalPressDay,the Press Council of India was started. I wish all journalists who are fearlessly working for strengthening democracy” she tweeted.
The International Day for Tolerance is an annual observance declared by UNESCO in 1995 to generate public awareness of the dangers of intolerance. It is observed on 16 November.
