Durban: South Africa successfully chase down 371 against Australia in the third ODI of their ongoing series at Durban. With that win, the South Africans took an unassailable lead of 3-0 in the five-match series against the World No. 1 limited-overs side.
South Africa beat Australia by four wickets in the third one-day international at Kingsmead on Thursday to clinch the five-match series after an epic run chase. Australia piled up 371 for six in 50 overs before South Africa reached their target with four balls to spare with David Miller making an undefeated 118 as the home side triumphed in the second-highest run chase of all time.
South Africa was another similarity with the famous 435 chase in the year of 2006. Ricky Ponting led the Aussie side then, who top-scored for them with 164 off 105 balls helping them establish a huge total of 435.
However, his captain’s knock went in vain when the Proteas unleashed themselves on a relatively stronger Australian attack of Stuart Clark, Brett Lee, Nathan Bracken and Andrew Symonds. While Gibbs scored 175, Graeme Smith 90 and Mark Boucher 50 made other major contributions for this successful run chase.
