New Delhi: Petrol and diesel prices were likely to be reduced as the international prices had gone down globally. But, the government on Friday raised the excise duty on petrol and diesel by Rs 2 per litre each thereby neutralizing the cut. As expected, the petrol price goes down by Rs.2.42 and diesel by Rs.2.25 per litre. But due to the excise duty, there is a probability that the market prices will be remain unchanged. Is it a masterstroke by the government of India? The question lies to be settled in due time.
