Hubballi: Passengers of Indian railways are accustomed to being overcharged with qualitatively trash food provided by the food vendors on the express and super-fast trains.
Giving a much needed respite to the exhausted and squeezed train passengers, Executive Director of Tourism and Catering (EDTC) in the Ministry of Railways (Railway Board), New Delhi clarified that vendors are duty-bound to carry and display the menu and rate chart.
Responding to a complaint filed by a Hubballi based passenger Mayur Patil, the EDTC said that the vendor is duty-bound to carry and display the menu of catering services. “A strict monitoring and supervision is being done by the zonal railways to provide good quality, hygienic and wholesome food to passengers. Regular/ surprise inspections are conducted by commercial officers/inspectors to check overcharging, hygiene, quality and quantity of food items. If complaints are genuine, punitive action will be taken against the licensee depending on the gravity of the offence,” the reply added.
