Ambala: President and supreme commander of the armed forces, Pranab Mukherjee on Thursday conferred President’s Standard on two Indian Air Force (IAF) units – Barnala(Punjab)based 501 Signals Unit and Pune based 30 Squadron, which flies Su-30 MKI (Sukhoi) fighters.
The station commander of 501 Signal Unit, Group Captain Vineet Jindal and Commanding Officer of 30 Squadron, Wing Commander Abhay Arun Phasnsalkar received the President’s Standard. The President also released a first day cover of 501 Signal Unit and 30 Squadron during the ceremony.
The Presidential Colour is a symbol of excellence and has been earned by the units with worthy contribution, both during the peace and war. It marks and depicts the hard work, valor and sacrifice of all the personnel posted to these units.
Addressing the troops, Mukherjee congratulated both the units for the rare honour and appealed to them to continue the selfless services towards nation. The president also said that India’s increasing eminence in the comity of nations also draws its strength from the ever increasing capabilities of the armed forces.
IAF chief, Air Chief Marshal Arup Raha, Air Marshal SB Deo, Air Officer Commanding in chief (AOC-in-C), western air command, Haryana chief minister Manohar Lal Khattar, Haryana Governor, Kaptan Singh Solanki and other senior defence officers and civil dignitaries were also present at the ceremony.
