Kolkata: West Bengal Commission for Protection of Child Rights on Thursday has sent a letter to all the district magistrates ensuring that children should not be allowed to take part in armed processions of Ram Navami and carry weapons.
As part of the Ram Navami processions many children are made to dress up like Rama, Lakshman and Hanuman and carry bows and arrows and clubs. The direction from the Commission warn the parents against letting their children be part of any such political rallies.
Though, RSS had ruled out display of any arms, clubs, bows-arrows, spears, swords, the BJP is adamant in going ahead with its plans because it feels traditional rituals call for worshiping and showcasing weapons.
The ruling Trinamool Congress is also planning separate Ram Navami celebrations to woo the non-Bengali voters of Bengal. Last year, the BJP had caught Trinamool Congress off-guard by going overboard with Ramnavami celebrations, assembling huge crowd. Even though the Trinamool Congress tried to put up an impromptu show, it had little or no effect.
