Presidency VC Gone Tough, Warns of Dissolving Committee

Kolkata: After trying to appease the agitating students in vain, Presidency University VC Anuradha Lohia has toughened her stand. She has directed the students to come on the table with the committee formed to hear their grievances before 12:00 noon on Friday and warned of dissolving the same if they failed the deadline.

The committee was formed by Lohia on Tuesday to hear the grievances of the agitators, who have been demanding the VC’s resignation. Although the committee consisting of representatives from students’ community and teachers was formed two days ago, the agitating students have so far refrained from any meeting with the body.

A section of students continued to demonstrate for her resignation claiming non-action during an alleged police assault last week. The students have been agitating, saying many of them were roughed up by police during the Friday visit of Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee to the College street campus of the university. But their form of protest has been likened to “hooliganism” and criticised all across.
