Kolkata: The prestigious and one among the prominent education institutions in the country Presidency University has declared that candidates seeking admission to various courses will have to go through the entrance exam conducted by the University as usual, at a Board meeting on Saturday.
Earlier discussions have been held to discontinue the entrance exam and it was suggested that admissions be given on merit basis, as the University do not have infrastructure to conduct the entrance exam. Thirty three thousand students are expected to sit for the University entrance exam this year.
The University had earlier requested the West Bengal Joint Entrance Board to conduct the Entrance Exam, but the request was rejected by the Board.
After stern opposition from many Department like English, History, Bengally and Political Science at the Board meeting, the University agreed to continue the old process.
“The Governing Body has directed the Admission’s committee and related department to initiate plans on conducting the exams” said Registrar of the University Debjyoti Koonar.
