Presidency VC returns home after being gheraoed for nearly 24 hours


Kolkata: The stale-mate of the Presidency University continues on Saturday even though the students allowed Vice Chancellor Anuradha Lohia to go back home after attending the convocation ceremony of the University at the Derozio hall of the university. The students declared that they would continue with the protests in a symbolic manner by protesting in front of the chair of the VC.

Lohia was gheraoed by students for nearly 24 hours after police allegedly beat up protesting students at the University main gate for providing safe passage to Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee who visited Presidency University on Friday. The students demanded the resignation of Lohia who firmly said that she won’t resign as she hadn’t called in the police.

Chancellor and Governor Keshari Nath Tripathi who was also present along with Education Minister Partha Chatterjee had to face trouble while entering the University as students staged demonstration in fornt of his car. In fact, Education Minister Partha Chatterjee, who was unable to enter the University on Friday through the main gate travelled with the governor to avoid the repetition of such incidents.

The After the convocation ceremony Anuradha Lohia held a closed door meeting with the agitating students of the University after which she went home.
