Praying for declassification, Bose-clan meets Rajnath

New Delhi: Requesting to declassify all files related to Netaji, Sugata Bose, Trinamul Congress MP and the great grandnephew of freedom fighter Subhas Chandra Bose, on Tuesday met home minister Rajnath Singh. He said that he has prayed to Rajnath to declassify the documents if it is 50 year old even. “I said that all files that are more than 50 years old should be declassified,” he is learnt to have said.“Declassification of files shouldn’t be selective,” he added.

Sources in the home ministry said files marked “secret” which are more than 30 years old automatically get declassified but there was also an element of discretion of the government in power to decide the classification and de-classification of files. During the previous NDA regime, it is learnt that the files related to the Emergency period had been de-classified by the government.

On Monday, Bose had said he had permission from Lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan to bring up this issue in the Parliament. “Keeping the family under surveillance for 20 years was very bad. My father, Shishir Kumar Bose, wrote letters to Netaji’s wife, they even kept those under surveillance. Even the letters Netaji’s wife wrote back were sent to the intelligence,” he added.
