New Delhi: The Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) on Tuesday reportedly announced Praveen Rana as the replacement of Narsingh Yadav at the Rio Olympics in the 74kg freestyle category. Narsingh, who was previously selected to represent India, failed dope test two days ago.
Freestyle wrestler Rana had earlier won a gold medal in the 74kg category at the Dave Schultz Memorial wrestling tournament in USA in 2014.
Narsingh, who earned the Rio quota after winning World Championships bronze, was earlier picked ahead of the double Olympic medallist Sushil Kumar. After failing the dope test, Narsingh was under provisional suspension and was virtually ruled out of next month’s Olympics. A day after Narsingh failed the dope test, his roommate at SAI (Sports Authority of India), Sonepat, Sandeep Tulsi Yadav also failed a dope test.
