Kolkata: Railway minister Suresh Prabhu on Thursday met West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee and assured full help in completing the metro rail project in Kolkata.
Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee assured all, of speeding up the several ongoing railway projects after holding a meeting with Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu on Thursday.
Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Thursday held a press conference along with Suresh Prabhu after they conducted a meeting to discuss over the delayed railway projects in Kolkata. They discussed the present condition of the projects and when they were likely to be complete. These projects are underway since a long period. The meeting was mainly to emphasis on the time when these delayed projects could be completed.
Railways Minister Suresh Prabhu said that he would like to complete all the delayed projects as soon as possible. He even assured of speeding up the delayed work of the Joka-B.B.D. Bag railway project. He said that the work would be completed in the right way and the work would go on until and unless the project gets completed. Mamata Banerjee said that the Joka-B.B.D. Bag project would be divided into 3 segments in order to avoid heavy traffic.
Suresh Prabhu has assured that the Joka-B.B.D. Bag project would be completed before the East-West project. This would help a lot of people, especially to those who travel daily for their work. Railways and the state would work together, hand-in-hand.
The meeting was attended by several high-officials including Railway minister Suresh Prabhu. 18 projects are underway in Kolkata. Suresh Prabhu also informed that the state has accepted his request for help from the state. Suresh Prabhu expects the projects to get completed within the speculated period. Hence, the meeting comes as a very important once as here the planning was made to convert the planning into speedy implementation. Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has given her goodwill wishes too.
Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu held another press conference at the Calcutta Press Club later in the day. He said that the East West Metro would be done in 2 segments. He informed that at the end of the last two years, there has been an improvement in the finacial sector. Business has increased iin the stuctural aspects too.
Railway minister Suresh Prabhakar Prabhu said that he wants state governments to join hands with the Railways for the development of stations. “We want to have a joint venture with the states. I am requesting the state governments to join hands with the Railways in developing and re-developing the stations,” Prabhu said during programme at the Howrah station. The Union Minister inaugurated several projects for the Eastern Railway, South Eastern Railway and the Metro Railway here.
Stating that West Bengal occupies a “strategic position” in the country, Prabhu said that the ministry would help “with its resources” for the development of the state. He also congratulated the Eastern Railway for becoming the first in the country to remove all unmanned level crossings in its zone. Prabhu also underscored that the Railways would work towards improving customer service and development of the infrastructure. “Revamping will take a long time though. We are are working on all aspects. We are focusing on the customer service. We have taken over 100 initiatives in the last 18 months. Though many are saying that things have improved a lot, but I think we still have a long way to go ,” Prabhu said.
