Kolkata: A hiccup in the power supply at Sovabazar-Sutanuti Station caused massive disruption in Metro Railway services on 10 June evening.
According to Metro Railway officials, around 7 pm the power supply to the third rail at Sovabazar-Sutanuti Station tripped. This brought train services to a grinding halt as it is the third rail from which the Metro trains draw power.
Owing to this, Metro train services remained suspended for over 30 minutes and several trains got stranded at various stations between Kavi Subhash and Noapara.
Unable to rectify the power supply, Metro authorities started a truncated service from around 7.35 pm with the trains plying on the stretch between Kavi Subhash and Central stations.
Till late into the night, the power supply to the third rail at Sovabazar-Sutanuti Station could not be restored. The disruption during evening hours left thousands of home-bound people stranded. They struggled through the evening to find alternative transport to return home.
