Lucknow: The much-awaited joint roadshow Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav and Congress vice- president Rahul Gandhi, scheduled to take place on February 11, has reportedly been called off, as it coincides with the birth-anniversary of Guru Ravidas, an annual function in which thousands throng in Varanasi.
The information regarding the cancellation of the rally was conveyed through a phone call from Rahul Gandhi’s office in New Delhi to district Congress leader late Thursday night. Reports said a later date for the road show is being considered.
Both Congress and the Samajwadi Party have joined hands to fight the assembly elections in the state with the SP conceding 105 seats to the Congress.
Soon after the deal was finalised, Akhilesh and Rahul had addressed their first joint press meet and roadshow in Lucknow on January 29, followed by a similar events in Agra and Kanpur.
The Congress vice-president have repeatedly expressed confidence in the alliance sweeping to power in UP.
It would be an interesting tussle to witness as the prime minister had emerged victorious from Varanasi constituency in the Lok-Sabha election, and people in Varanasi have still shown faith in his leadership abilities.
