Kolkata: The Election Commission has anounced that on June 8, polls to six Rajya Sabha seats will be held as six MPs from Bengal are going to retire on August 18. Nominations can be filled till May 29. Among the outgoing MPs are Sitaram Yechury (CPM) and Pradip Bhattacharya (Congress) while those from Trinamool are Derek O’Brien, Dola Sen, Debabrata Bandopadhyay and Sukhendusekhar Roy.

For renomination of Yechury to RS, Left needs support from Congress, as CPM on its own has 25 MLAs and Congress has got 44.
However, the case of Manas Bhuiyan, who is reported to have joined Trinmaool from Congress, is yet to be decided by the Speaker. Sources said that Trinamool might field a new candidate.
