Serampore: Polling agent of Trinamool has been beaten by TMC leader. The incident happened at Serampore on Monday when the fifth phase of polling was running. The fifth round of elections for the 17th Lok Sabha elections was held on Monday. A Polling agent of Trinamool candidate, Kalyan Bandyopadhyay, was allegedly beaten at Serampore in Hooghly district.
Leader of the Trinamool itself is the attacker on the agent. The victim’s name was Zakir Hussein. On the day of voting, he was sitting as an agent of grassroots leader in the booth number 196 of Chakundi block of Dunkuni.
The name of the accused is Sheikh Jahangir. The accused person is again the president of Trinamool minority cell. A group of grassroots groups claimed that the attacker was voting against grassroots candidates. They complained, “Sheikh Jahangir wanted that Kalyan Bandyopadhyay to be defeated. Kalyan Bandyopadhyay can not be allowed to win again.”
Affected Zakir Hossain said that Sheikh Jahangir was voting for the Congress. He attacked after protesting it. Kalyan Bandyopadhyay, the grassroots candidate of the Serampore center, reached the spot after hearing the incident.
In 2014, the BJP had fielded singer-composer Bappi Lahiri here. Lahiri got around 22% votes while CPI (M) got around 28% votes. Banerjee won this seat by a margin of around 250,000 and with a vote share of around 40%.
