Police Outpost Set Ablaze By GJM Cadres In Kalimpong’s Pedong


Kalimpong: GJM cadres set police outpost ablaze in Kalimpong’s Pedong. This is seen as a protest move against the mass police raids in GJM chief Bimal Gurung’s residence and GJM office in Darjeeling.

Media and police vehicles were torched and stone pelting were also reported by GJM supporters in Patlebas.

Police and CRPF in a joint operation conducted raids in GJM leader Bimal Gurung’s residence in Patlebas on Thursday morning. They broke locks and barged into the premises. Extensive searches were carried out.

A huge cache of explosive devices, bows and arrows, sharp weapons, firecrackers along with mobile phones were recovered. The unrest was reportedly fueled in aid of the armaments.Huge sum of money was also seized. Recovery of radio sets, night-vision binoculars and walky-talky from a political party office has raised eyebrows.

GJM calls indefinite shutdown in Darjeeling hills from Thursday in protest of the sudden raids.
