Burdwan: Burdwan Jamuria Thana’s police have filed a case against 5 people of BJP including 3 of state BJP leadership. On 1st February, police filed a case on charges of breaking section 144 against BJP members— state BJP President Dilip Ghosh, MP Babul Supriyo, Mahila Morcha President Roopa Ganguly, Asansol North candidate Nirmal Karmakar and Jamuria’s candidate.
Today afternoon, BJP Asansol North and Jamuria candidates surrendered in court applying bail; court granted those bails. On 24th January, a dead body of a young lady was recovered from a coal mine of Jamuria; state BJP leadership alleged that she was raped and murdered. BJP leadership also alleged police indifference, and tried to meet the family of the deceased. But, police applied section 144 to stop Dilip, Babul and Roopa. Babul managed to meet the family of the deceased by taking an opposite route. After 1st February, police have filed a case against state BJP leadership on Thursday morning.
But, after around 45 days of breaking section 144, why police have filed a case now? This incident has put a question mark on police’s role once again creating a controversy. BJP state leadership has alleged that it has been done to pressurize them before polls.
