Police arrests smugglers, seizes ivory at Siliguri


Jalpaiguri: Police on Saturday arrested two smugglers and recovered ivory weighing 700 grams from the duo at Pradhannagar area at Siliguri.
The arrested have been named as Sukomal Laha a resident of South Dinajpur and Indrajeet Biswas a resident of Maldah. The duo has been staying at a rented place in Siliguri and used the place as headquarters.

Sources from the Bainkunthapur forest department said that, a racket involved in sumugling of ivory has long been active in the area. Officials nabbed the culprits red handed posing as customers of ivory at a hotel in Siliguri. The arrested have been produced at the Jalpaiguri court on Sunday.
