Kolkata: Bengal means sweets. Foodie Bengali cant conclude her meal without having sweet dishes. But those who coming from the outside, always missed the sweets of Bengal. As there are no such a good stall. Now the long standing demand of airport-bound passengers and residents of New Town to have a good Mishti Hub will be met soon.
Work for the construction is going on. The name of the hub will be announced later. The hub will be the first of its kind in and around Kolkata. The buyers will get the best quality sweets under one roof. The hub is coming up near gate number 3 of Eco Park.
HIDCO officials are very hopeful about the hub. The date of inauguration is yet to be finalised, but it is likely to open before Bengali New Year’s Day.
There will be Langcha from Shaktigarh, Sitabhog and Mihidana from East Burdwan, Sarpuria and Sarbhaja from Krishnanagar and Chanabora from Murshidabad. The shops will bring their products from the factory and no direct cooking will be allowed. However, the use of electrical equipment like OTG and, micro oven may be allowed in the back store.
Each shop will have three compartments, namely display section, delivery section and cash section. The construction of the hub is being carried out, keeping tradition in mind. A meeting was held between the senior officials of Housing Infrastructure Development Corporation (HIDCO) and well-known sweet sellers in Kolkata where the proposal to construct the hub was discussed at length.
All those present agreed to participate. The hub will cater to the airport-bound passengers coming to and going out of the city. Many passengers want to buy the famous Kolkata sweets while going from the city but fail to get them as most of the well-known shops are situated in South and Central Kolkata. Once the hub is ready, they will able to buy sweets on their way to the airport and they will also have a choice of traditional Bengali ones.
The hub will also cater to the people of New Town. More and more people are coming to New Town to stay in the housing complexes. As it is the finance, IT and education hub of the city, thousands of people come to New Town for work every day. They will also get a chance to buy sweets. Most important will be the tourists, both domestic and foreign, who visit Eco Park throughout the year.
