Jaipur: The Summit of Forum for India-Pacific Islands Cooperation is scheduled to be inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday in Jaipur. The Summit will be held at Jaipur’s Rambagh Hotel. It is the first summit of FIPIC that is held in India.
The summit is taking place with an aim to expand its economic and strategic footprints in the region amid China’s increasing presence. It is learnt that the main focus of today’s summit will be on Blue economy, oil and natural gas, mining, IT, health care, fishing and marine research etc.
FIPIC includes the Cook Islands, Fiji, Kiribati, Marshall Islands, Micronesia, Nauru, Niue, Samoa, Solomon Islands, Palau, Papua New Guinea, Tonga, Tuvalu and Vanuatu.
It's believed that the FIPIK summit today will focus mostly on blue economy (ocean-based economy), oil and natural gas, mining, IT, health care, fishing and marine research etc.
Indian President Pranab Mukherjee welcomed all the visiting dignitaries at Rastrapati Bhavan on August 20, following which leaders visited Agra, on their way to Jaipur, for a tour of famous Taj Mahal.
