PM Modi condoles Gajendra Singh’s death


New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi condoled the death of the farmer who committed suicide at Aam Aadmi Party rally in Delhi, says the nation is saddened and that at no point should the hardworking farmer must think he is alone. In an unfortunate incident a farmer committed suicide yesterday by hanging himself from a tree in Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s presence at Aam Aadmi Party’s rally at the Jantar Mantar in the National Capital against the land bill. 

The man, identified as Gajendra Singh, climbed a tree and hanged himself. He was rushed to nearby RML hospital in a police jeep where the doctor confirmed that he was “brought dead”. A purported suicide note was recovered from the spot in which he mentioned him as a farmer whose crops have been destroyed. AAP continued its rally despite all this unfolding. 

Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his anguish at the tragic death of Gajendra. In one of his tweets, the Prime Minister said that Gajendra’s death has saddened the Nation. Prime Minister Modi expressed condolences to his family. The Prime Minister also assured the farmers that they are not alone in their struggle and the country is together in ensuring a better tomorrow for them. 

Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh said he was deeply pained to hear the news of the shocking incident. He has asked the Delhi Police Commissioner B S Bassi to institute an enquiry into the incident. Bassi later said inquest proceedings have been initiated.
