New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi and many other political leaders on Tuesday paid homage to Mahatma Gandhi on his 70th death anniversary by recalling sacrifices made by martyrs who laid down their lives for the country.
“Remembering Bapu on his Punya Tithi,”PM Modi said in a tweet.”We bow to all those martyrs who have sacrificed themselves in service of our nation. We will always remember their courage as well as dedication towards the nation”, the PM said.
Congress President Rahul Gandhi pays tribute to Mahatma Gandhi at Gandhi Smriti on his 70th death anniversary. Screening of a rare documentary, the launch of a book with selected lectures and a ‘peace walk’ – all focused on Mahatma Gandhi – are the events planned by various Gandhian organisations here to pay homage to the Father of the Nation on Tuesday.
The events – jointly organised by the National Gandhi Museum, the Gandhi Peace Foundation and the Gandhi Smarak Nidhi – that would run through the day begin at 11 am with a ceremonial prayer and spinning, a practice famously propagated by Gandhi.
